To be accountable-accountability-to account for- ownership... as many people think this is a"new" buzz word to me it is actually a forgotten way of being.
For the next several blogs I am going to talk about principles that drive me and what I utilize and base my company on. By no means am I perfect at any of the principles I will be writing on nor are any of us but I do strive to hold to and utilize all of them. The first obviously is to be "accountable".
As I did a little research on the definition one synonym popped up - responsible-"to be responsible for what you do and giving a satisfactory reason for it"...
Lets look at "what you do"-to me that means think, say, act, react,- "to act or conduct oneself". Lets look at "satisfactory reason"- this to me means a logical, reasonable, honest definition/description of the events that occurred. Not a concocted, dramatic, tale of illusion created to deceive and misdirect.
I did a brief talk about a month ago utilizing William Skaespeare-2 quotes I utilized I feel help more clearly speak to this idea
" What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel! In apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world, the paragon of animals! "
"Men at some time are masters of their fates: The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves that we are underlings"-
-Man is a piece of work- man is the paragon of animals because we do reason and understand, our actions can be angelic ...And because of ego we do think we are god like and our actions then become devilish not angelic. .
And at some point time in our lives we are"masters", we are responsible, of our "fates"-we do and get to own who we are and create our own lives- good ,bad happy, or sad. . And looking to the "stars" for answers or excuses doesn't allow for ownership it allows for rationalizations and a concocted illusion of our true selves.
Is it "easy" being accountable...no. It can be extremely difficult. However by changing the mind set on how we look at accountability will make a big difference. By looking at accountability as a get to-I get to own my actions and my life- this encourages and empowers ownership of self. When we feel we "have to"- I have to say and do the right things all the time-this becomes overwhelming and the probability of "slipping" and faltering increases.
By taking small steps everyday striving to own our actions and conduct is a step in the right direction.
BE, DO, HAVE-Be a certain way, act a certain way and you will have certain things
Be accountable, act accountably, have a life that you can count on!
REMEMBER,
You are the DIFFERENCE!!!
