Unless you have been hiding under a rock you have heard something about RFRA( Religious Freedon Restoration Act). And I am sure you have an opinion one way or the other about these acts/laws being passed. Awesome! I live in Indiana and have for over half my life. My opinion is that not only is this bad law, it was bad timing ( not that any timing of this would be good- judgement I know), poorly thought out and gave Indiana's reputation a huge black eye..
This article is not to stand up just for Indiana but all people's rights and the right to believe what they wish to believe without persecution.
Easter was celebrated around the world yesterday-celebrating the resurrection of Christ. If you are not Christian you may or may not believe in the resurrection or that Jesus died for our sins. That's ok. But the message of forgiveness and hope I believe are universal which I believe Easter also represents. I am Christian and more importantly I am a believer in Jesus and his complete love for every human. He healed the sick, he forgave misgivings, he taught the meaning of humanity- where ever he went ,whom ever he was with-man, woman, child, rich, poor, sick ,healthy, sinner or saint. One of the things Jesus and other religious figures have stated in many different ways is "do unto others, as you would want done unto you". For me that means to treat others with respect; to honor people in who they are and where they are in life. No, I don't have to agree or like others beliefs or actions but I do and will respect their right to have that belief and do my best to understand how and why they think and believe the way they do.
As all this drama swirls around us about RFRA, remember this country-the United States of America- was founded on the principle of religious freedom. Our constitution and amendments added to, have guaranteed those rights. I'm guessing because our government has created these "restoration" acts that as a people we have forgotten that fact. Maybe if people would read the first line of the pre-amble to the constitution-ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL..."
I believe this to mean all people are created equal. If this is true shouldn't all people be TREATED equally!?
If we just remember- do unto others, as you would want done unto you- we may not have to "restore" what should already exist!
Remember...
YOU ARE THE DIFFERENCE!!!
